Hands - Final

Description

Hands are almost as effective in communication as the mouth itself. They are used to emphasize points, direct attention, and add energy into a conversation. They speak of their owner, giving away great details and secrets of their personality. A more reserved person may move their hands less, while a very energetic and open person may make wild movements for emphasis. Those who work messy jobs tend to have dirty hands with calluses, while those who work in an office or other setting may have clean, softer hands.

Hands have always fascinated me. Even when shaking someone's hand, I make a point of remembering the feel of it. They are a form of art themselves. No hand is the same. I sought to show this in photography. Instead of focusing on color, I used texture and lighting to reveal specific aspects of different hands. All the shots were candid and converted to black and white to help convey the specific aspects of my theme.

This is the order each image was submitted for my final project in my Photography I class. Had some pretty good slideshows to critique.

Can anyone tell me how to get small text in here? None of the html I use to edit text size works. The header tags work in the preview, but not in the published version.

heh well i can totally see that you know what you're doing, rule of thirds and all. you have a good range of tones. i really enjoy perusing each photograph; they all have a nice flow. what i *would* like to comment on is that i don't think you have a true black in your third and fourth photographs.

great job. it's a really interesting project (i wish i had thought of it for *my* final photo project last semester :P). it's engaging on both a visual and emotional level. i think your most effective photograph is the last one, it's the most emotive of all six and quite possibly the best one in terms of technique (the second one is a reaaallly close runner up though)
